Therapy in Yuba City, CA

I offer a safe, warm and inviting counseling office for you to feel heard and share your unique life experiences and receive the validation and support that you need. I strongly believe in working with clients and families in therapy to find solutions to your unique problems and struggles, so you can grow to have a healthier and happier tomorrow. Through counseling, I strive to help you discover the underlying causes for current struggles, to allow for a deeper level of healing, growth, sustained recovery and happiness. I believe that you already have the resources within to solve issues and problems and to heal from your past. My job as your therapist (counselor) is to help you tap into that wealth of undiscovered knowledge and assist you in learning to actively use this new knowledge in your life outside of the counseling office.

I have lived in the Sacramento Valley my entire life and have been practicing therapy in Yuba City since 2007.  I live locally and enjoy raising a family of my own.  I graduated at the top of my class from California State University, Chico, with a Master of Science in Psychology.  I have worked with a wide range of client issues in many settings and with different populations.  I’m skilled in treating depression, anxiety, panic attacks, PTSD, trauma & abuse, OCD, Bipolar Disorder, workplace stress, family struggles, LGBTQIA+ issues and more.  I have extensive experience counseling trauma and sexual abuse, which is an area of clinical focus and I remain up-to-date with the latest treatment options.

My training includes Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), Brainspotting, Somatic Experiencing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and more, which are all research validated therapies for the issues I treat in counseling.

EMDR is a specialized therapy that is used to treat conditions such as posttraumatic stress disorder, panic attacks, anxiety, stress reduction, addictions, sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, trauma, disturbing memories and more.  I have attended many seminars and specialized training in this form of therapy.  I also completed an Analytical Review on EMDR in Graduate School and I have studied well over a hundred articles on this form of therapy.

I am also Certified in Brainspotting and I’m in a program to become a Consultant (Expert) for this form of therapy, which will allow me to assist in the training and supervision of new Brainspotting therapists.  Brainspotting is a specialized treatment used to treat a multitude of issues including sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, PTSD, anxiety, depression, OCD, attachment issues, performance issues, social anxieties, grief and more.  As a counselor, I have found Brainspotting to be a very effective therapy and it’s often easier for clients working through difficult issues than other therapies.  Brainspotting can also shorten the time spent in counseling. I have attended multiple Brainspotting trainings beyond the minimum requirements and continue to study this emerging therapy.

Additional I am trained in Somatic Experiencing and I’m a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). Somatic Experiencing is a trauma therapy which helps clients resolve trauma and stress by focusing on the way that the trauma presents in the body (i.e. tightness, physical issues, etc.).  I have completed the 3 year Somatic Experiencing Training Program and have been practicing this therapy successfully and integrating it with other modalities, especially Brainspotting.

I'm also an AATBS Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (CBT).  CBT is a form of therapy that can help clients solve their current problems by looking at the relationships between their cognitions (thoughts/beliefs) and behaviors (what you do) to challenge and make changes in these areas.  CBT has been proven an effective form of counseling for a wide variety of issues presented in therapy.  I actively practice other forms of therapy as well, including attachment based approaches, motivational interviewing, humanistic approaches, Family Systems, Psychodynamic therapy, depth counseling, etc.
